MOSCOW, Aug 16 (PRIME) -- Electric power consumption for Russian mining has rocketed by almost 20 times over the last five years, equipment importer Intelion Data Systems said on Tuesday in a statement.
“Starting from 2017, consumption of electric power for mining in Russia has been increasing steadily,” the company said, adding that an annual rise reached at least 150%.
In 2021, bitcoin mining consumed 1.25 gigawatts, Intelion said.
According to the Energy Ministry, mining in the country spends less than 1% of the total electric power volume.
